Fraud can come in many forms. However, fraudsters have several go-to schemes.
Payment scams
These scams can be under the guise of investment, romance or tech support. Fraudsters manipulate victims into sending them money directly via Zelle and other online payment platforms with the promise of providing goods, services or relationships.
Bank imposter/spoofing scam
An attack (via email, text, caller ID or website) in which the attacker pretends to be a legitimate bank by falsifying sender address, phone number or URL. Fraudster tries to obtain things like one-time passcodes, usernames and passwords for financial gain.
Phishing
Phishing emails are a common way that fraudsters try to get unsuspecting recipients to share personal and financial information. Messaging contains links directing recipients to malicious sites or attachments infected with malware and often include a sense of urgency.
