When is everything due?

The initial deadline for filing or requesting an extension is April 15th, but here are a few other important dates to keep in mind:

• Jan 31, 2025: Important tax forms like W-2 or 1099 forms should be sent to you.
• April 15, 2025: Individual tax returns are due. This is also the deadline for requesting an extension and making a contribution to an IRA or HSA for the 2024 tax year.
• June 15, 2025: Individual tax returns for U.S. citizens living outside the U.S. or Puerto Rico are due.
• October 15, 2025: Individual tax returns for those who file an extension are due.

Who should file?

Most U.S. citizens or permanent residents who work in the U.S. must file a tax return. Check these IRS requirements on whether you’re exempt from filing.

What documents do I need?

Before you begin to file, make sure you have the right documents, including:

• W-2: Reports your wages from employers
• 1099 forms: Reports other types of income, such as gig worker pay and savings account interest
• 1098 forms: Reports interest payments you’ve made on mortgages, tuition or student loans
